Almuñécar has announced the launch of its new “Corresponsables 2026” programme, an initiative designed to help families balance work and childcare responsibilities through expanded municipal support services.

The scheme, developed in coordination with the , will provide free childcare activities for children aged between 3 and 12 during school holidays and non-teaching days. Services will operate in both Almuñécar and La Herradura, offering structured recreational and educational activities in supervised settings.

Municipal officials say the programme aims to improve work-life balance, particularly for working parents who face difficulties arranging childcare outside the regular school calendar. The initiative forms part of a broader regional strategy to promote shared family responsibilities and support local employment.

The “Corresponsables” framework has been implemented across Andalucía in recent years, with funding provided at regional level and services managed locally by participating town halls. In Almuñécar, places will be allocated according to eligibility criteria established by the municipality, with priority typically given to working families and those in need of additional support.

For residents — including international families settled in the area — the programme represents an expansion of accessible public services. It also reinforces Almuñécar’s positioning as a family-friendly municipality within the Costa Tropical.

Further details on registration dates, locations and eligibility requirements are expected to be published by the Town Hall in the coming weeks.
