Storm Pedro Warnings Extend to Costa Tropical — What to Expect This Weekend
Storm Pedro brings wind and coastal warnings to Costa Tropical, with rough seas and gusts expected across Granada Province this weekend.
Storm Pedro, the 16th named system of the 2025–2026 weather season, is bringing unsettled conditions across large parts of Spain this week, with coastal alerts now extending into Granada Province and along the Costa Tropical.
Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has placed 13 autonomous communities under various weather advisories as the Atlantic system crosses the peninsula. While the most severe warnings are concentrated in northern Spain, southern regions — including parts of Andalusia — are experiencing the outer effects of the storm.
Wind and Coastal Alerts in Granada Province
Along the Mediterranean coastline, including Motril, Salobreña and Almuñécar, yellow-level warnings have been issued for coastal phenomena and gusty winds. Forecast models indicate waves could reach between two and three metres in exposed areas, particularly on open stretches of shoreline.
Wind gusts are also expected to intensify throughout Thursday evening, creating choppier sea conditions and stronger crosswinds on elevated roads and coastal promenades. While no extreme rainfall totals are currently forecast for the Costa Tropical, intermittent showers remain possible as the system passes through southern Spain.
Impact on Coastal Life and Travel
For local residents, the most noticeable effect of Storm Pedro is likely to be felt along the seafront. Fishing activity, small recreational boats and water sports operators may face temporary disruptions if sea conditions deteriorate further.
Drivers travelling on coastal routes or through elevated inland areas near the Sierra Nevada foothills should also remain cautious, particularly during periods of stronger gusts. Local authorities have not announced road closures at this stage, but weather-related advisories remain in place.
Temperatures and Weekend Outlook
In addition to wind alerts, forecasters expect a modest drop in temperatures across southern Spain as cooler air follows the storm system. Higher elevations in inland Granada could see noticeably colder overnight conditions compared to earlier this week.
Looking ahead, meteorologists suggest that conditions may begin stabilising by late Saturday as higher pressure gradually re-establishes itself across Andalusia. If forecasts hold, residents of the Costa Tropical could see calmer seas and brighter skies returning by the end of the weekend.
For now, Storm Pedro serves as another reminder of what has been an active winter season across Spain, with multiple named systems impacting different regions over the past months. While the Costa Tropical is not facing severe disruption, coastal vigilance remains advisable through Friday.
